Inuit Spirit Mask
Canada; Alaska; Greenland
The Inuit Spirit Mask is made from the only available resources in ice-bound countries: animal parts, stone, and driftwood (the bottom part of the driftwood mask shown here has been discolored by being lodged in sand). Masks usually showed faces in a trance, eyes closed and mouth open to receive the shaman’s strength.
This entity appears in the story “2. The Bitterness of the Masks”.
